Tanya Flanagan for Clark County Recorder

“Clark County deserves a Recorder who protects property rights, ensures accuracy, and leads with integrity. I am ready to use my experience and dedication to strengthen the Recorder’s Office and serve our community with accountability and professionalism.”

Meet tanya flanagan

I bring more than 23 years of service within Clark County government and currently serve in a leadership role inside the Clark County Recorder’s Office. As a proud SEIU 1107 union member, my career reflects deep institutional knowledge, operational discipline, and a sustained commitment to public accountability.

Families and businesses are the heart of Clark County. For more than 23 years, I’ve worked alongside our residents and local companies to support the services they depend on every day. As Recorder, I’ll focus on clearer communication, stronger staff training, and better engagement with the people who make this community strong.”

Throughout my 23‑year career, I have worked directly with county commissioners, county managers, deputy county managers, department directors, community stakeholders, and residents across all seven commission districts. I’ve collaborated with all 38 County departments, giving me a comprehensive understanding of how local government functions and how essential services are delivered to the people of Clark County.

Tanya's Priorities

Modern, reliable technology is essential to maintaining accurate public records and protecting property rights. Strengthening the Recorder’s Office technology systems will help improve efficiency, enhance document security, and expand convenient online access for residents, businesses, and industry professionals who rely on recorded documents.

Effective government requires experienced leadership, disciplined management, and operational clarity. My focus is ensuring the Recorder’s Office runs efficiently while maintaining the highest standards of public service.

Businesses such as title companies, lenders, legal professionals, and other industry partners rely on the Recorder’s Office every day to record and access important property documents. Strengthening corporate client services will focus on improving communication, enhancing service delivery, and ensuring professional partners can work efficiently with the Recorder’s Office while maintaining the integrity of the public record.

My Story: The Fight of My Life

It was early 2003 when I asked my doctor for a mammogram.

I was only 32, but four years earlier I lost my mother to breast cancer that metastasized to her liver and bones and a paternal aunt died shortly after my mom when breast cancer also spread to her liver. I wanted a baseline record of health, so my gynecologist referred me to Steinberg Diagnostic Medical Imaging center. I never thought two weeks later I would receive a letter informing me of suspicious findings and that I needed to seek care from a breast cancer specialist. It was a Friday night, so finding help would have to wait until Monday morning. My best friend, Temako Roque Gardner, drove from Arizona the next morning, rang my doorbell, and surprised me. “I would never let you wait alone until Monday,” she said.  We cried and found idle ways to distract me from my worry until Monday came.

That weekend marked the beginning of one of the greatest fights of my life. I was diagnosed with Ductal Carcinoma In Situ (DCIS), Stage 0. I underwent a lumpectomy and four years later, I was diagnosed a second time with DCIS, Stage 0. A second lumpectomy and surgical complications resulted in a third diagnosis in 2008.

By then, I had a 2.5 cm tumor determined to be Adenocarcinoma Stage 2A. Each diagnosis affected my right breast. I underwent surgery and a year of chemotherapy, followed by seven of the 10 years recommended Tamoxifen for oral therapy. I forfeited plans to become a mother. Still this year I will celebrate 18 years of cancer-free recovery.  I also celebrated with the triumph of seeing Governor Joe Lombardo sign Assembly Bill 428 in the 83rd Legislative Session, giving women diagnosed with breast and/or ovarian cancer access to insured IVF beginning Jan. 1, 2027. Just as I fought for myself and for families in Nevada to have access to health care options, I will work hard in the Recorder’s Office to make sure the work we do is good for Clark County families.

Other things that might interest you…

I’m the youngest of three. My father is a retired union Laborer and Carpenter and my mother was a stay-at-home mom who later worked in banking as I got older. I began my time at Clark County as the community liaison to commission districts D and B. Prior to Clark County, I was a public relations manager with MGM Resorts International for two years following 10 years as a print news reporter covering suburban government, police and fire, and community boards for various publications including the Las Vegas Review-Journal, Long Beach Press Telegram, and Seattle Times.  When I am not working or hosting my radio show, The Scoop with Tanya Flanagan on 91.5 KUNV, I enjoy trying new recipes, spending time with family, especially seeing my three great nieces, Nyla, 3; Ava, 18 months; and Noa,1-year old. And of course, my handsome boy, Nico, is a show-stopping Black Labrador Retriever!
